Greeting cards can make the perfect personalised gift. They are simple to make and have a personal touch to them that can bring a smile to anyone’s face. It is an amazing way of thanking someone, maybe saying sorry, wishing on their birthday or anniversary and anything actually!

As a college student, I am not only always under a tight schedule but also a tight budget. Having always wondered how to add a personalised touch to any gift, I realised that they can make a perfect addition. I am a huge believer of using what you have, so I came up with DIY greeting cards that can be made using material lying around the house or your dorm room!

In this article, I will take you through 17 different types of greeting cards you can make in under 10 minutes. That is right! 10 minutes, using just what all is available around the house. You can mix and match the different techniques I show to make something unique!

1. Christmas

Christmas definitely deserved a special mention in all of the cards. It connects everyone and there are so many variations to have! You can use paint, buttons, polish etc to make these wonderful cards. Enjoy making them under 10 minutes.

  • Polished Deer

    This card is one of the simplest and easiest to make. Although it is simple, it looks absolutely amazing and fits the minimalistic perspective wonderfully. It took me just three minutes to make it! It will add a wonderful personal touch to your Christmas gifts to give to loved ones. Here is how to make it.

    Scissors
    Paper
    Black Pen
    Nail Polish (Even a red marker or pen would work)

  • Steps

  1.  Start by cutting the paper in the desired size. I cut the paper into A5 size for this card
  2. Draw the antlers and write your message from end to end as shown in the picture. I used nail polish to make the nose of the reign deer and added a splash of brush strokes at the end too. You could just use a red pen to make the nose or if you have red buttons they would look wonderful as well!

 

 

 

  • Button Nose

    I absolutely love this card. It is minimalistic, took me 3 minutes to make and has a touch of holidays to it. Here is how you make it!

  • Steps

  1.  Cut the paper in the desired size. I cut the paper into A5 size for this card. Draw a pair of antlers and eyes and colour as desired.
  2. Add glue to the button and stick it alongside a personal message and you’ve got yourself a wonderful card

 

 

 

  • Single Line

    This card takes one minute to make. I kid you not. So if you are in a hurry and need a quick fix to your gift, add this minimalistic card.

  1.  It speaks for itself, doesn’t it? If you want to get a little more innovative just add a dab of nail polish along the lines!

2. Birthdays

Isn’t it lovely to get a heartfelt letter or card for your birthday? How about spreading the same kind of joy to your friends an loved ones. And it takes less than 10 minutes!

  • Pom Pom Balloon

    This card is very easy to make and is one of the more colourful of the lot. It can be used for birthdays or you can change the message and use it as a thank you card or anything you like. This took me about five minutes to make. Here is what you need and how to do it!

    Scissors
    Paper
    Black Pen
    Pom Poms (Any Colour)
    Ribbon
    Glue Stick

  • Steps

  1.  Cut the paper in the desired size. Stick a ribbon across the page as shown and draw three lines to be the string of the balloons.
  2. Write in the message and decorate the card as desired. Once you are done with the drawing add the pom poms and you have a cute little card for yourself!

 

 

  • Envelope Card

    Now this one can be comparatively time-consuming. Nevertheless, it took me 7 minutes to make. I have used it as a birthday card but it does not necessarily have to be that. You can use it as you want! Here is how to make it

  • Steps

  1.  To create the envelope follow these steps:
    • Cut a square shape and fold as shown

    • Fold as shown below and secure with glue

 

    • Cut a small piece of paper so as to tuck in the upper sleeve of the envelope and voila! You’ve got yourself an envelope

 

 

  1. Now stick this on the card that you cut out and put in a personal message and you have got yourself a wonderful card.

 

 

 

3. Thank You

  • Ribbon Me Up

    This is a cute little card with just a simple message but will not take you more than two minutes to make. Here is what you need and how to make one!

    Scissors
    Paper
    Black Pen
    Glue Stick
    Ribbon
    String

  • Steps

  1.  Cut out small strings and attach them randomly across the paper with a glue stick.
  2. Make a ribbon and add it to the mix. You can then add a personal message to the card and you are good to go!

 

  • Open the window

    This card is a cute way of disclosing a message and requires no skills whatsoever. It took me a total of 5 minutes to make. Here is how to do it yourself

  • Steps

    1. Start by cutting three sides of a square creating a sort of a window. Attach a sticky note on the flip side such that as you open this window a pink opening can be seen.
       
       
       

    2. You can now add your personalised message and decorate the card which takes less than a minute.

 





 
 

  • Scattered Letters

    This card takes basically three minutes to make. It is simple, minimalistic and can be an absolute delight to attach to a gift. This is how to make one:

  1.  Cut the paper in the desired size. Randomly place the letters and fill them up

 

 

 

4. Valentines/ Long Distance

  • Pin it up

    This card says, pin me to your heart. For this card, you’ll have to space two minutes of your time. Thats it! So simple to make 😀

  • Steps

  1.  Take a pin and attach it to the top of the paper and add your text.
  2. Draw a heart and fill it in with nail polish. Why nail polish you ask? It is glossy and does not create a mess like paint or markers. It is shiny and adds the glow to the cards!

 

 

  • Missing Alphabet

    I think the concept of this card is absolutely adorable. If you know your alphabets and are short on time, this is the one for you! Took me three minutes to make

  • Steps

  1.  This really does not need any explanation. You can decorate the card as you like. Maybe make each alphabet a different colour.
  2. You can also use lemon juice to write U on the flip side, which turns brown under a heat source. Extremely adorable!!

 

5. Anniversary/Wedding

  • Button the bride

    This one is truly Pinterest inspired. It is cute and easy to make and takes less than four minutes of your day. Here is what you will need and how to make one!

  • Steps

  1.  Place the buttons to get an idea of where to make the stick figures.

     

  2. Trace the buttons lightly with a pencil and draw the stick figures around it. Once you are done stick them down with glue and you are good to go! You can also add some text if you like.

 

 

  • Simple and Pink

    This card just has a quote written on it with a free hand border in nail polish and a simple black pen.

  • Tie a knot

    I absolutely love this card. It is minimalistic, took me 3 minutes to make and has a touch of holidays to it. Here is how you make it!

  • Steps

  1.  Write your message and spread it out to the desired shape. Fill it with polish (the shine and shimmer and ease of use reason). If you don’t have polish, not to fear, just use markers.
  2. Take a piece of lace and tie a knot and attach it to the bottom of the paper. Put in your message and you have the card ready to use!

 

6. Miscellaneous

Other than the usual categories above here are some of the cards that you can make and use for any occasion. Be it sorry cards, get well soon cards, new year cards, anything actually!

  • Need a Tissue?

    This one is Pinterest inspired as well. It makes a perfect personal note as a get well soon card and is very adorable. Here is how you make it!

  • Steps

  1.  Cut a piece of paper in the shape of a tissue box and cut a tissue in half and stick it to the back side.
  2. Flip it over and stick it on the front page of your card, add text and some border and and you are good to go!

 

 

  • Words

    This is the most minimalistic of the lot but takes a little bit of time as compared to the others and on your choice of words. All you have to do is write a small expression which suits your agenda! The one I made is a sorry card. It says oh! in the front, and I made a boo boo at the back.

  • The Collage

    Now, this is very generic and simplistic card which will take less than five minutes. You need the following:

  1.  Cut small triangles in similar shades and stick them as shown. Write your message and you are done!

 

 

So here you go, folks! 17 different types of cards which you can make for almost any occasion in under 10 minutes. In today’s world, where everything is a hustle it is always difficult to add personal touches to ones work. Hopefully, this will bring you and your loved ones closer no matter the occasion. A simple thank you in words can go a long way, how about make it a memory and give a handmade card.
